There is concern about the likely future loss of the Jicarilla Apache language to the Jicarilla Apache people. The LCPP has set out to do something about it. Many projects have been accomplished – books written, audio and videotapes made, research conducted and stored, programs established and improved, and a Jicarilla language curriculum developed for the Jicarilla Family and Child Care Center.
Projects and undertakings help us keep in mind who the audience (s) will be and whether they be non-speakers, limited speakers, fluent speakers, K-5 students, secondary students, Head Start children, very young children, elders, or families. Each had unique needs and resources.
Through this organization planning, work is still underway. LCPP has developed processes which allow us to:
Identify foundation projects that should be started now; Organize and begin appropriate support and updating for on-going projects and older projects; and Continue to examine the overall situation of the language so that our efforts are development, teacher training, reversing language loss, policies, promotion, research, and reports.
